Chelating Agents
Description

Chelating agents (EDTA & DTPA) are large organic structures that form a structure with micronutrients. The chelating agent keeps the micronutrients in solution when soil pH is higher than desired for a crop. Plants are able to absorb chelates very easily and there is less of a chance of burning roots than if sulphates are used. EDTA is the most economical of the commonly used chelating agents and is very effective in the pH range 5- 7.5. DTPA is a special chelating agent used with iron and effective over a larger pH range, particularly alkaline conditions. this is important for hydroponic growing systems.
